Our history
The Brothers of Our Lady Mother of Mercy founded St. George Mixed Secondary School. It is located in the Catholic Diocese of Homa Bay, Oyugis Parish. The administrative location is in Sikri – 5 kilometers from Oyugis town (on Oyugis-Kisumu Road), Rachuonyo South Sub-County, in Homa Bay County.
The school opened its doors in the year 1997 to give education to students who were orphans, from single families, those from underprivileged backgrounds, and those who had dropped out of school because they could not be able to afford to pay fees in the schools they were enrolled in.
Therefore, the first students had done standard eight in primary and stayed home without joining the secondary school for three to five years because of the lack of secondary education fees. This also catered to students who were drop-outs because of fees. These were students who could not afford even a uniform.
St. George truly started at the right time for them. The school saved souls at a time when it was needed the most. The first students did their national school exams (KCSE) in 2000. Despite some being advanced in age, they recorded outstanding success, an excellent foundation for the school. We are still proud of their success.
Over the years, more and more students have gone through this institution, and many have excelled in their studies and continued with higher education. This has helped them to help their siblings and families at large. It is a milestone that has continued to give the school a name for excellence in curriculum delivery. We look to journey with our students as individuals and as part of the more prominent St. George fraternity.
Because of changing times and inadequate resources to run the school, the CMM brothers have, over the years, sacrificed to keep answering that call of service to the people. The outstanding results recorded at the end of 2017 further encouraged this desire to keep up the excellent work. CMM brothers are committed to this school and can never allow its doors to be closed; however, the difficulties faced. At the end of it all, Our Light has to keep Shining the brightest.
Over the years, we have maintained our excellence as among the top-ranking learning institutions in the sub-county and the larger Homabay county. Our students attain good grades for college and university placement. More and more needy-bright students come knocking at our doors at the end of every year after the results of primary school exams are out.
We currently have a school population of over 400 students, with two streams each.
